The LIFE (L’Instrument Financier pour l’Environnement) programme is a European Union financial instrument set up in 1992 to support projects in favour of the environment and the climate.
Over 46,000 projects have benefitted from it in Europe.
Among the different types of LIFE projects, the LIFE "Nature and Biodiversity" programmes specially contribute to implementing the European Bird directive from 1979 and the Habitats Directive of 1992, and support the Natura 2000 network.
